BBL: Who are the owners of Big Bash League? All you need to know

Eight teams are locking horns in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2025-26.
The Big Bash League (BBL) is a franchise T20 tournament that takes place annually in Australia. This tournament was established in 2011, and its 15th edition will be held in 2025. BBL is conducted in the December-January window in Australia.
The BBL features a total of eight teams: Adelaide Strikers, Brisbane Heat, Hobart Hurricanes, Melbourne Renegades, Melbourne Stars, Perth Scorchers, Sydney Sixers, and Sydney Thunder. Perth Scorchers, with five titles, are the most successful team in BBL history.
Moreover, the tournament is conducted for both men’s and women’s teams. The first edition of the WBBL was played in 2015-16. So far, 11 editions have been played. Every year, the women’s tournament took place ahead of the men’s tournament.
No single team has dominated the WBBL since its inception, with four teams- Sydney Sixers, Adelaide Strikers, Brisbane Heat, and Sydney Thunder- winning two titles each.
Who are the owners of BBL?

The Big Bash League is completely owned and operated by Cricket Australia (CA). CA also owned all the BBL clubs. In the current setup, CA leases out all the clubs to their respective state cricket associations through licensing agreements.
All eight city-based franchises are managed by their respective state cricket association under a long-term licensing agreement with Cricket Australia. Cricket New South Wales, Queensland Cricket, South Australian Cricket Association, Cricket Tasmania, Cricket Victoria, and Western Australian Cricket Association are six state cricket associations in Australia.
Moreover, the Governing Body is looking forward to allowing private ownership in the Big Bash League by selling minority stakes (up to 49%) to private investors. This will help them to attract more investment and increase player salaries; however, no final decision has been taken in the matter as of 2025.
