BCB president Nazmul Hassan fled from Bangladesh to London when the political unrest began in the country.

In a significant development in the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), president Nazmul Hassan is reportedly ready to quit his post in order to cooperate with the new government.

Since July, Bangladesh students have been protesting against a controversial quota system for government jobs.

In August, the protests took violent turn and it forced the Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to resign from her position and flee the country. After her resignation her government was dissolved and an interim government was formed to run the country.

Nazmul, who is currently serving his fourth term as chief of the BCB, is in London with his wife; they flew away from Bangladesh since the political unrest began in the country.

Other influential board directors who had the backing of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have also been in the hiding.

It was learned that a couple of board directors who are currently staying in Dhaka had a meeting on August 14 to discuss the upcoming action of the board and cricket in the country.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, one BCB source confirmed that Nazmul is ready to resign from his post.

“One of our directors is in touch with him and, according to him, Papon bhai is ready to cooperate (with the government) and is also prepared to quit from the President’s post to bring reform in the board,” a BCB director, who attended the meeting, told Cricbuzz on Thursday.

The Cricbuzz report further states that BCB has sought guidelines from their legal team on how to run the board with many directors absent at the moment. The BCB are in touch with the interim government officials on a regular basis and updating them about their plans.

Recently, Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud met with the BCB officials to see if the board can appoint an interim head under the ICC framework. The current board’s tenure will end in October 2023, but the BCB directors are concerned if their stepping down might impact ICC confidence in Bangladesh to host the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in October.
