The BCCI will not allow any Right To Match cards for the IPL 2025 mega auction, according to reports.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to allow the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises to retain as many as five players ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. However, the board will not be bringing back the Right To Match card option.

The BCCI is expected to finalize and announce the retention rules for the IPL 2025 Player Auction by the end of September.

Although there were requests from some franchise owners, including Kolkata Knight Riders‘ Shah Rukh Khan, for the next auction to be a mini-auction and not a mega auction, the board is unlikely to be swayed away from their decision to conduct a mega auction this year.

The last mega auction was ahead of the IPL 2022 season, and the one before that was ahead of the IPL 2018 season.

The majority of the owners want 5-6 retentions for the IPL 2025 mega auction

According to a report in The Indian Express, the board will allow five retentions for the IPL 2025 mega auction and there will be no RTM card option available. The RTM card option was made available in the IPL 2018 mega auction but was not available in the IPL 2022 mega auction.

The report added that in the recent meeting between the BCCI and the franchise owners, the majority of the owners asked for 5-6 retentions.

For the IPL 2022 mega auction, the franchises could retain four players, with a maximum of three Indian players and a maximum of two overseas players. But the board is set to allow one more player this time to be retained. For now, though, there is no clarity about the combination the board will settle.

The report said, “It is understood that after weighing in their request the BCCI has adhered to the request as it believes retaining up to five players will also ensure the franchises’ brand value is also protected.
