BCCI set to announce Asia Cup 2025 after ACC AGM concludes; 8 teams to take part - Reports

Asia Cup 2025 is set to be hosted by India, but played at neutral venue.
The Annual General Conference (AGM) of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) concluded in Dhaka on Thursday (July 24) afternoon, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which had joined the conference remotely, leaving to make the much-anticipated Asia Cup announcement.
The AGM went on as usual, but, as reported by Cricbuzz, the elections, primarily for the position of vice-president, did not occur. The disputed finance bill/accounts were approved.
Mohsin Naqvi, the president of the ACC, said all 25 members attended the AGM (some, of course, virtually). “The meeting was attended by all 25 members. The BCCI will inform us about the Asia Cup in a few days,” he told the waiting media.
Due to heated political tensions between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack and the drone attacks by the two countries on each other, there was a likelihood of the Asia Cup being canceled. Several reports have stated that Indian cricket fans’ sentiment is to not have any cricketing relations with Pakistan.
Asia Cup announcement by BCCI coming soon
According to sources who attended the meeting, there was an impression that the Asia Cup would go ahead, with the BCCI making the announcement.
“We cannot say it will happen for sure, but there was no impression that it wouldn’t happen. The BCCI is sorting out issues with commercial partners, and it should announce in a few days,” a source was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
The 2025 edition of the Asia Cup is expected to feature eight teams, with the event taking place from September 10 to September 28, though it could begin a few days earlier.
Despite the fact that the BCCI is the tournament’s official host, the games will be held in the UAE, specifically in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. This comes after the ACC decided to organize the Asia Cup in a neutral country when India or Pakistan might have been the official hosts.
Even the Asia Cup 2023, which was hosted by Pakistan in ODI format, saw India playing their matches, including the final, in Sri Lanka, as they refused to travel to Pakistan after failing to get permission from the Indian government.
