Grade B central contract of BCCI is worth INR 3 crores per year.

On April 21, 2025, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) unveiled the updated list of centrally contracted players for the senior men’s Indian Cricket Team for the 2024-25 season. A total of 34 players received central contracts from the BCCI on Monday.

The BCCI’s central contract system is divided into four categories: A+, A, B, and C. Players in the A+ category are regulars across all formats, while those in the C category are recent debutants in various formats. The annual retainership fees are ₹7 crores for A+ players, ₹5 crores for A-grade players, ₹3 crores for B-grade players, and ₹1 crore for those in category C.

Suryakumar Yadav, India’s T20I captain; ace spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel; and opener Yashasvi Jaiswal have been included in the Grade B contracts. Surprisingly, Shreyas Iyer has also been placed in the Grade B contracts list, earning ₹3 crores.

Shreyas Iyer was removed from the BCCI central contracts list last year after withdrawing from the England test series due to back issues. Previously, he had been a regular in all three formats for India and had performed exceptionally well in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

However, despite recovering from his back injury, Iyer was not considered for a contract in 2024 because he failed to make himself available for domestic cricket during the early half of the season, as required by the BCCI for player eligibility.

The middle-order batsman did not participate in the Ranji Trophy match in February 2024, citing injury concerns, which led to action from the governing body. However, Iyer responded with strong on-field performances, starting with domestic events. He was instrumental in Mumbai’s stellar campaign in 2024-25 season, contributing to their victories in the Ranji Trophy, the Irani Cup, and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT).

Additionally, he led the Kolkata Knight Riders to the Indian Premier League title in 2024. These achievements restored his place in the national team lineup. He returned to India’s ODI squad during the England series and carried that momentum into the ICC Champions Trophy, where he amassed 243 runs in five matches, including two half-centuries.

Players with Grade B Contracts:
