BCCI sacked T Dilip as fielding coach last month.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reinstated T Dilip as the fielding coach of the Indian Cricket Team, according to reports. Notably, BCCI had sacked Dilip as the fielding coach of India last month.
After India’s poor performance in the previous test series against Australia earlier this year, the BCCI sacked three support staff members. Assistant coach Abhishek Nayar, fielding coach Dilip, and Strength & Conditioning Coach Soham Desai were sacked by the BCCI.
Notably, Dilip was also a part of the support staff during the tenure of former head coach Rahul Dravid. After India won the ICC T20 World Cup in June last year, Dravid and other support staff members quit their roles. However, Dilip’s contract was extended till March 2025.
BCCI extends T Dilip’s tenure as fielding coach for one year – Reports
According to reports, BCCI has offered a one-year contract to Dilip. They wanted to appoint a foreign player for the fielding coach role, however, they were unable to find one.
“We have decided to reappoint Dilip for a year and he will be travelling with the Indian team to England. His contract so far is for one year,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
Currently, Gautam Gambhir is the head coach of Team India, Sitanshu Kotak is the batting coach, and Morne Morkel is the bowling coach. Ryan Ten Doeschate dons the role of assistant coach. Hence, Dilip will work with them during the England test series.
India will fly to England for a test series. The test series will witness five matches. The 1st test will commence on June 20 at Headingley in Leeds. The 5th test will commence on July 31 at Kennington Oval Stadium in London.
Recently, BCCI nominated Shubman Gill as the new test skipper of India. He will lead the team against England. Rishabh Pant has been appointed as the vice-captain in the red-ball format.
