BCCI ropes in IDFC bank as new title sponsor for India's home season games - Reports
BCCI set to benefit almost 1000 Crores from this deal for India’s home season till August 2026.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India has got a new sponsor for India‘s home season international matches. Private sector bank named ‘IDFC First Bank’ has acquired the rights to India’s home season matches starting with the three-match ODI series against Australia in September. IDFC will be replacing Mastercard as they were the title sponsor of India’s home season games. IDFC outbid SONY Sports Network in acquiring the title sponsor rights. SONY Sports Network was entering the fray for the first time. As reported by Cricbuzz, there were no other bidders for the title sponsorship of India’s home season games.
BCCI to get a huge benefit from the deal
IDFC acquired the rights of title sponsorship for 4.2 crore rupees per match in India’s home season. The previous value was 3.8 crore rupees. So, the BCCI has got a jump of 40 lakh rupees per match in the title sponsorship. The base price for bidding was set at 2.4 crore rupees. The agreement between BCCI and IDFC is extended till August 2026 and they will cover around 56 international games on Indian soil. BCCI will be earning almost 1000 Crore rupees from this deal in three years. The change in title sponsorship will be seen against Australia in the upcoming three-match ODI series.
After the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India, The Indian team will be hosting a five-match T20I series against Australia in November-December this year. Then they will take on Afghanistan for a three-match T20I series in January 2024. After the Afghanistan series, India will be playing a five-match test series against England in February and March 2024. The Indian team will be playing 3 ODIs, 8 T20Is, and 5 Test matches in the bilateral events this season. The Indian Premier League is slated to begin in the last week of March 2024.
Indian team currently are at Alur, Karnataka for their preparation camp. Team India will soon fly to Sri Lanka to play in the Asia Cup 2023 and open their campaign against Pakistan at Pallekele Stadium in Kandy on 2nd September. They are placed in Group A along with Pakistan and Nepal in Asia Cup 2023. After the Asia Cup, India will be taking on Australia, eyeing the World Cup 2023.
