BCCI recently extended the tenure of chief selector Ajit Agarkar by one year.
On Friday, 22nd August, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released a call for applications to fill four spots on the women’s panel and two spots on the five-member senior men’s national selection committee.
The requirements for eligibility were the same as in prior years. Candidates must have participated in at least 30 First-Class (FC) games or seven test matches. Candidates who have played in 20 FC matches or at least 10 One Day Internationals (ODIs) will also be taken into consideration.
“The contracts of selectors are renewed annually. We have not yet identified which selectors will be replaced, but that process will be undertaken soon,” a BCCI official told PTI.
The current men’s selection committee, which includes SS Das, Subroto Banerjee, Ajay Ratra, and S Sharath, is led by former India pacer Ajit Agarkar and recently selected the team for the Asia Cup next month.
Two members of the Ajit Agarkar-led BCCI selection panel to be replaced
The news indicates that South Zone selector S Sharath, who has already served out his four-year tenure, would be one of the two members of the current men’s panel to be replaced, which is headed by chief selector Ajit Agarkar.
The BCCI requested applications on Thursday in order to fill two positions on the Senior Men’s Selection Committee.
Now that Sharath has served out his term, focus is shifting to the next selector from the present panel. Ahead of a pivotal season that features a busy home schedule and preparations for the 2026 T20 World Cup, the announcement implies a reorganization in the selection structure.
Since Ajay Ratra was named the North Zone selector last year, the other member to be replaced is probably going to be either SS Das or Subroto Banerjee.
Meanwhile, the BCCI has extended chief selector Ajit Agarkar’s tenure by one more year.
BCCI to bring changes in the women’s selection panel as well
Applications are also being accepted for four Senior Women’s Selection Committee posts by the BCCI. In addition to meeting comparable requirements regarding retirement and prior committee membership, candidates for these positions must be former athletes who have played for the Indian women’s national team.
A spot on the Junior Men’s Selection Committee is also up for grabs, according to the board. This position entails managing the selection process for all age groups up to the Under-22 level, organizing junior competitions, and making sure the senior squad has a robust feeder system.
