BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said that he had a cordial discussion with Mohsin Naqvi over Asia Cup 2025 trophy matter.
Devajit Saikia, the secretary of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), provided the latest update on Asia Cup 2025 trophy row, saying he recently had a meeting with Mohsin Naqvi over the matter. He also added that the BCCI and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) are positive to sort the matter as soon as possible.
After defeating Pakistan in Asia Cup 2025 final on September 28 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai, Indian Cricket Team refused to accept the trophy from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman and ACC president Mohsin Naqvi. As a result, an ACC official removed the trophy from the dais on Naqvi’s instructions.
Later, Naqvi did not hand over the trophy to Indian Cricket Team, who returned home without the silverware. When the BCCI demanded the trophy be handed over to India, Naqvi asked them to collect it from him at the ACC headquarters in Dubai. Later, he relocated the trophy to an undisclosed location in Abu Dhabi, according to reports. As a result, the BCCI took up the matter to International Cricket Council (ICC) in the recent annual meeting in Dubai.

Speaking to ANI, BCCI secretary Saikia informed that BCCI had a meeting with Naqvi over Asia Cup trophy matter in Dubai, which was facilitated by ICC. He also added that both BCCI and ACC are looking forward to sort it out at the earliest.
“In both these meetings, the chairperson of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Mr Mohsin Naqvi, was present. So do I. I represented BCCI, and during the formal meeting, there was no such discussion on this issue because it was not on the agenda.
However, at our request, the ICC has facilitated a meeting between me and Mr Naqvi on the sidelines of the board meeting. We (him and Naqvi) had a cordial discussion on the issue. Both sides have understood that this has to be sorted out. Both sides are positive to sort it out at the earliest possible time,” he said.
“So, the first step has been taken. So, we will be working on various options, how to settle it, how to solve the problem and break the stalemate. So, in the coming days, these options will be provided by either side, and we will work it out with the intermediary part played by one of the senior persons of ICC,” Saikia added.
Saikia also revealed that ACC is working hard to solve the issue and expressed optimism that the trophy will come to India soon.
“The other side (ACC) is also working on it so that the whole thing is settled in a very amicable manner. Every player, every official of BCCI and every citizen of the country are eagerly waiting for the trophy to land in our country. I am not going to disclose anything, and we are working very seriously, sincerely, and I am sure that some positive results will come at the earliest,” he concluded.
