Ben Duckett’s remarks on Jaiswal received a lot of criticism and trolling.

The five-match test series between India and England took place in February-March 2024 and ended in favour of the hosts. After losing the first game, India dominated the next four matches and ended up winning the series by a 4-1 scoreline.

It was yet another home series win for India. India have not lost a home test series since 2013.

For India, Yashavi Jaiswal had a blockbuster series as he went on to score over 700 runs, which laid the foundation for India’s win. Jaiswal struck two double hundreds in the series along with three half-centuries.

During the series, England’s Ben Duckett made a controversial statement downplaying Jaiswal’s century in Rajkot.

After scoring a double hundred in the second Test (209), Jaiswal followed it up with another double hundred in the next Test in Rajkot and scored an unbeaten 214 off 236 balls with 12 sixes.

Duckett apparently downplayed Jaiswal’s blistering ton and said the England team’s aggressive approach has honed Jaiswal’s batsmanship. Duckett’s statement didn’t go well, as some former cricketers and fans slammed him

However, he has now clarified it that he was praising Yashasvi Jaiswal for his performance. The England opener has shed light on this statement and said that he was praising the Indian opener.

As quoted in the Daily Mail, Ben Duckett said, “It was actually me paying him a nice compliment. I’m pretty sure I said he was a world-class player, but no one spoke about that. Would I have said what I did during the fifth test? No, because he played like that throughout the whole series, and he was incredible.”

Since Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes have taken charge as coach and captain, England have adopted an ultra-aggressive batting approach in Test cricket. As a result, they have had significant success and lost one only Test series, which came against India.

The English team will next host Sri Lanka for a three-match Test series, starting on August 21.
