Shubman Gill couldn’t do much with the bat in second innings of the Lord’s test.
In the ongoing Lord’s test, Ben Duckett of England avenged India skipper Shubman Gill for his previous altercation with Zak Crawley. Late on day four, Duckett was able to divert the in-form Indian batter with an icy-cold sledge, and the payoff came immediately.
Thanks to his 430-run performance in the second test in Birmingham, which included a record double century, Shubman Gill reached 600 runs in the series following first innings of the Lord’s test.
Gill broke the record for the most runs scored by an Indian batter in an English series with his six-run blast on Sunday, surpassing former India captain Rahul Dravid. Virat Kohli, who scored 593 runs during the 2018 tour of England, is third on the list after Dravid, who scored 602 runs during the 2002 tour.
‘600 runs is enough for this fella’- Ben Duckett sledges Shubman Gill
Late on Day four, Duckett was able to divert the in-form Indian batter with an icy-cold sledge, and the payoff came immediately. After Karun Nair and KL Rahul’s partnership was broken by Brydon Carse, who dismissed the former for 14 off 33, Gill entered the batting order in the 13th over of India’s innings.
A hostile England camp greeted the 25-year-old and quickly reminded him of the third-night incident in which the Indian players had charged at Crawley, accusing him of wasting time.
Following Gill’s initial delivery, the Indian skipper was the target of several mouthed remarks by the England players. Duckett then walked past him right across from backward point and had a go at him.
The stump mic picked up his words: “600 runs and he is done for this series. 600 runs is enough for this fella.’
When Carse came back for this third over, he outsmarted Gill with a nip-backer. The ball struck the knee roll and beat the batter on the inside edge while he did not move his feet significantly. After speaking with Rahul, Gill was not persuaded by the umpire’s decision to give him out and motioned for a review.
As Gill left for six runs, ball-tracking revealed three reds, and the UltraEdge had nothing on it.
