Ben Stokes is recovering from a hamstring injury he suffered in December 2024.

Ben Stokes, England captain, has stated that he is working on returning to full batting and bowling duties. And that he should be fit to do so as England prepare to face India in a five-match test series starting June 20.

The 33-year-old’s last game was in Hamilton in December 2024, but he was out for some time due to a left hamstring injury.

Stokes stated that he is optimistic in his ability to return to his all-around duties for England ahead of the one-off test match against Zimbabwe and the series against India. He attributed his full recovery to his work ethic.

Under the leadership of Ben Stokes, England will host Zimbabwe in a one-off four-day test match in Trent Bridge between May 22 and May 25.

I’ve done it before – Ben Stokes on resuming his all-round duties in tests

Ben Stokes expressed his desire to return to the field as a full-fledged all-rounder for England in an interview with Sky Sports. The renowned English cricketer went on to say that he has recovered from injuries in the past and is sure he can repeat his previous feats.

“In terms of my role as a player, that full seamer, batting at six, trying to dominate every situation I find myself, whether I’ve got a bat or ball in my hand, is what I want to get back doing out on the field, on the biggest stage. I know I’ve done it before, it’s something I’m very confident in myself I can do,” Stokes told Sky Sports.

Ben Stokes also added that his philosophy is to get “back fitter” every time he returns from an injury.

“I always work hard. My ethos when I’m injured is that I come back fitter than I was before I got injured. I’ve worked incredibly hard on all aspects of everything, from my cricket to fitness, and know I’m going to be in a position when I am back on the field to potentially be in physically the best possible shape I have been in,” Stokes added.

Ben Stokes has so far played 110 tests for England. He has 6719 runs with 13 centuries at an average of 35.55 and the best score of 258. With the ball, Stokes has 210 wickets with a best of 6/22.
