Ben Stokes dismissed Shubman Gill for 12 runs in second session on day one of the Manchester test.

The fourth test of the ongoing five-match series between England Cricket Team and Indian Cricket Team got underway on Wednesday, July 23 at Old Trafford, Manchester. England skipper Ben Stokes yet again oozed his class as he dismissed Shubman Gill cheaply in first innings of the ongoing Manchester test.

Gill completely misjudged a delivery off Stokes in second session on day one. The delivery pitched outside off stump but changed its angle to hit Gill’s pads. The Indian skipper tried to leave the delivery, feeling it would fall outside off stump.

As Stokes and England players appealed for dismissal, on-field umpire Rod Tucker took some time to adjudge him out. Gill reviewed the decision, however, he was given out by the third umpire. The right-handed batsman lost his wicket for 12 runs off 23 deliveries.

The Gill’s dismissal came as a big blow to India in the first innings as they lost their third wicket for 140.

Watch here:

Notably, this was Gill’s third consecutive failure in the series as he has failed to get going after scoring hundreds in first two tests. After hitting a hundred in the opening test at Headingley, Leeds, Gill scored a double hundred and another hundred in the second test at Edgbaston, Birmingham. However, he got out for 16 and six in the Lord’s test. With 619 runs, he is still the highest run-scorer of the ongoing five-match series.

Meanwhile, India are having a decent outing with the bat despite losing three wickets in second session on day one of the Manchester test. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (58) slammed a half-century and etched an opening stand of 94 runs with KL Rahul (46).

Stokes, Chris Woakes, and Liam Dawson, who is making his comeback after eight years, have picked one wicket each. Earlier, England skipper Stokes won the toss and opted to bowl first.

India made three changes in their playing XI for the ongoing Manchester test. They brought in Sai Sudharsan, Shardul Thakur, and Anshul Kamboj for Karun Nair, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Akash Deep. It is a must-win encounter for the visitors to keep their hopes of series win alive as the hosts lead the five-match series 2-1.
