Ben Stokes smashed 182 against New Zealand in the third ODI at The Oval.

English all-rounder Ben Stokes has smashed his first ODI century after coming out of retirement in the One-day International format. Stokes smashed 182 runs off 124 balls with 15 fours and 9 sixes against New Zealand in 3rd ODI at The Oval in London. Stokes has also broken the record of the highest individual score for England in a One-day international format as well. Stokes has gone past English opener Jason Roy as the highest individual scorer in One-day international format. England have posted a huge 368 runs on the board. 

Stokes number one for England

England opener Jason Roy had the previous best score with 180 runs against Australia at Melbourne Cricket Ground in 2018. So far only 7 English batters have gone past 150 runs in an ODI innings, Ben Stokes became the 7th member in this list against New Zealand. Jason Roy, Alex Hales, Robin Smith, Jos Buttler, David Gower, Andrew Strauss, and Ben Stokes are the 7 batters with 150-plus scores in an ODI innings. Andrew Strauss and Jason Roy have gone past 150 thrice in their career, Jos Buttler scored twice and the rest have gone past only once.

Left-hand batter Ben Stokes played a splendid knock to put England on top against New Zealand after losing early wickets against Kiwi pacer Trent Boult. Boult picked up wicket in the first ball of the game when he sent Jonny Bairstow back in the hut. Soon after he dismissed Joe Root in his second over. After these two wickets, English opener Dawid Malan (96) and Ben Stokes (182) added 199 runs in 28 overs for the 3rd wicket. Stokes smashed 9 sixes in his innings and took England above par score at The Oval. 

England finished off their innings at 368 runs, Stokes was looking set to become first ever Englishman to score a double century in an ODI, but Ben Lister got him caught by Will Young. Stokes went back after spending almost more than three hours in his marathon innings. Trent Boult picked up 5 wickets in the game in his 9 overs. New Zealand are currently struggling in their big run chase. England have got the early wickets to put New Zealand under pressure.
