"Can’t really complain; Ben Stokes is one of the best players": Harry Brook reacts to his World Cup exclusion
Harry Brook to miss the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India, as Ben Stokes set to make his return in 50-over format.
The last couple of years have seen some brilliant talents come up from across the world. Some youngsters have gone on to the big stage to impress one and all with their abilities. One such young talent is England’s dashing batter, Harry Brook. The 24-year-old right-hander is considered to be the next superstar in English cricket. He has performed incredibly well across formats for England in the last 12 months or so.
However, England made a surprising call to drop Brook from their provisional squad for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup in India. It surprised many former cricketers and fans after Brook did pretty well in the recently concluded Ashes 2023 series at home. Notably, Harry Brook is currently playing in the ongoing The Hundred tournament and has opened up about his World Cup exclusion.
“It’s disappointing”- Harry Brook reacts to his omission from 2023 ODI World Cup squad after Ben Stokes’ return
Harry Brook is part of the Northern Superchargers in the ongoing The Hundred tournament in England. After the game against the London Spirit, the 24-year-old spoke about his missed chance in the World Cup squad. He said that it was disappointing for him and that he couldn’t do much. However, Brook also stated that he doesn’t want to think more about it and wants to move on.
Brook has some excellent numbers in test cricket, where he has scored 1181 runs at 62.15. But he hasn’t had many chances in ODIs and has played only three games. However, his current form has made many former cricketers back him for the World Cup squad. But England’s management had some other thoughts. They convinced Ben Stokes to come out of retirement, and he is irreplaceable in the middle order.
Brook said, “I’ve not had much conversation with Matthew [Mott] or Jos [Buttler]. They said with Stokesy coming back, I was probably going to miss out this time. He is one of the best players to ever play cricket, so I can’t really complain, can I?” The 24-year-old himself admitted that he hasn’t had many chances in the 50-over format for England or Yorkshire. Former English star Kevin Pietersen also showed his disappointment at Brook’s exclusion and said that he was flabbergasted by this decision.
