Ben Stokes to undergo surgery after the World Cup, set to miss India tour - Reports

English all-rounder Ben Stokes will mark his ODI return on Friday against New Zealand.
Ben Stokes will be making his comeback in the One-day international against New Zealand at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on Friday. The English all-rounder has made a U-turn from his previous retirement decision last month to play another World Cup for his national side. Part of England’s World Cup squad, Ben Stokes will be undergoing a knee injury after the mega event in India. Operation might also rule him out of the India tour scheduled for next year in February and March. Stokes has had a long knee injury problem in recent years and he also missed playing in the IPL 2023 due to this injury. Stokes didn’t bowl enough as well due to this problem.
To undergo surgery after ICC Cricket World Cup 2023
Talking about his injury to BBC in a public event Ben Stokes said, “There’s quite a long time off after the World Cup. I have been having some good conversations with some specialists. There is a plan in place. When we do what we need to do to give myself a chance of getting back to being a genuine all-rounder there will be a time when I can say what I am doing. I want to be playing next summer as a genuine all-rounder. This winter is all about playing this World Cup and then getting this knee sorted.” Stokes didn’t bowl in the last three Ashes 2023 tests as well. He was purely playing as a batter in those games.
English winter seems to be a good time for Ben Stokes to get his knee operated on if he continues to play against India as a batter and get treatment after that, Stokes might be missing the entire IPL, T20 World Cup, and most of the English summer. He has made it clear that he wants to play the next English summer as an all-rounder and have a good time bowling. England will be hosting 4 teams the next summer, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Australia will be touring England in 2024. They will be playing in India and West Indies after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
Ben Stokes announced his retirement from One-day international but representing his national side in Cricket’s most coveted trophy is a big thing for anyone to come and take part in. Ben Stokes has been picked for England’s World Cup squad. Talking about his ODI comeback Ben Stokes said, “The words World Cup are pretty inspiring. The idea of going in and potentially being able to win back-to-back World Cups was one of the big things.” England will be playing a 4-match ODI series against New Zealand, and a 3-match ODI series against Ireland before travelling to India for the World Cup. The first ODI against New Zealand will be played on Friday.
