Mohammed Shami was benched for the first four matches by Indian management. He was included in the playing XI after Hardik Pandya was injured. Shami played his first game of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against New Zealand in Dharamsala and right away showed that benching him was the wrong decision. He took 5/54 against New Zealand and helped the team restrict them to 273 runs. India made 274/6 and won the game, while Shami won man of the match.

4. Shaheen Shah Afridi (5/54) vs Australia :

The left-arm pacer picked up his best figure of the tournament against Australia in Bengaluru, which came in a losing cause. Shaheen took 5/54 in his spell, but Australia made 367/9. The highly anticipated game between India and South Africa at the Eden Gardens ended in a one-sided affair. India made a tough total of 326/5, with Virat Kohli scored his 49th ODI ton on his birthday. The pitch was tough, and it had a turn for the spinners, and Ravindra Jadeja took full advantage of it. He took 5/33, and South Africa were all out for their lowest World Cup total of 83 runs. India registered a massive win by 243 runs.

2. Mohammed Shami (5/18) vs Sri Lanka :

Mohammed Shami has taken three 5-fers in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 so far. His second one came against Sri Lanka, when India registered the second-biggest win margin in a World Cup game. Batting first, India made 357/8 in the first innings. But what happened next was just horrible batting. Sri Lanka got all out for just 53 runs, and India won by 302 runs. Every Indian bowler performed well, but Shami took 5/18, and it was his third World Cup fifer.

1. Mohammed Shami (7/57) vs New Zealand:
