Best XI of Indian cricketers who didn't get selected for ICC Cricket World Cup 2023
Some prominent cricketers couldn't make it to India's squad for ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
India have announced their 15-members squad for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. Selectors have retained Asia Cup squad and dropped three names, Sanju Samson, Tilak Varma, and Prasidh Krishna. Along with these three names, several other players have missed out on the selection. Shikhar Dhawan, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Ravi Ashwin, multiple options on the missed-out list can go on to make a magnificent playing XI and challenge any team in the world.
Team India will open their World Cup campaign against Australia at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai on October 8. India will play two warm-up games before the main event. They will play Netherlands on September 30 and England on October 3.
Here's a look at best Indian XI of players who are not selected in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 squad:
1. Shikhar Dhawan (c) :
Rohit Sharma’s opening partner in the previous two World Cups, Shikhar Dhawan, has not found a place in India’s World Cup squad this time. Shikhar Dhawan is still a decent opening batter for any team and can be the skipper for a team that missed out on the World Cup in 2023.
2. Yashasvi Jaiswal:
Young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has also missed out on selection. Yashasvi Jaiswal made his ODI debut on the recently concluded West Indies tour. Jaiswal could accompany the experienced Shikhar Dhawan in this lineup. Yashasvi Jaiswal has been a magnificent player for India since his IPL debut.
3. Sanju Samson (WK):
Wicket-keeper Sanju Samson has also been left out of the squad, and KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan were preferred over him for the World Cup tournament. Sanju Samson can take up the role of wicket-keeper and No. 3 batter in the Indian top order. Sanju remains a backup option for team India.
4. Tilak Varma:
Another young Indian middle-order batter, Tilak Varma, was in the 17-members squad for Asia Cup 2023. Tilak Varma is yet to make his ODI debut, but he has impressed everyone with his game in the T20I format. Tilak will be a superb option in the middle-order, especially at number 4.
5. Rinku Singh:
India’s rising star in the T20I format, Rinku Singh, is yet to make himself a solid option in the Indian One-Day International team. Rinku Singh made his debut against Ireland in the T20I series. Rinku is seen as a potent option for India in the finishing role. Rinku did a magnificent job in his debut.
6. Deepak Chahar:
Injury-prone Deepak Chahar is almost out of contention for a place in Indian team as a new ball bowler and as a number 8 lower-order batter. Deepak Chahar can play as an all-rounder in this playing XI. Chahar has been out of international action since last year.
7. Bhuvneshwar Kumar:
Just like Shikhar Dhawan, it looks like Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s international career is almost over. Bhuvi has been a magnificent player for India in white-ball cricket, but selectors seem to have moved beyond his name. Bhuvi can take the responsibility as a new ball bowler in the playing XI.
8. Ravichandran Ashwin:
Ravichandran Ashwin’s name came up for consideration in the World Cup 2023 squad as a finger spinner, but team management went ahead with Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja. Ashwin will be an off-spin option as well as a decent lower order player who can contribute with a few runs in this playing XI.
9. Yuzvendra Chahal:
Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has also found no place in India’s World Cup 2023 squad, as India went ahead with only one specialist spinner, Kuldeep Yadav, in their 15-members squad. Yuzvendra Chahal will provide leg-spin variety in the playing XI.
10. Prasidh Krishna:
Prasidh Krishna made his comeback in Indian lineup after a long injury break, along with Jasprit Bumrah, in Ireland T20I tour. Prasidh Krishna is in the squad playing in Asia Cup in 2023. Prasidh Krishna is another pace bowler in the lineup.
11. Arshdeep Singh:
Arshdeep Singh has played only three ODI games in his career so far and is yet to pick up a wicket. Arshdeep Singh may have a better T20I record, but due to his failure in ODIs, he was kept out of the World Cup plans. Arshdeep will provide a left-arm bowling option in this eleven.
