The second BGT 2024-25 test is a day-night clash in Adelaide.
The second test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 kicked off on Friday, December 6 in Adelaide. Coming to this game, India etched their name in history by becoming the first team to defeat Australia at Perth’s new Optus Stadium in a test match.
The Adelaide test is a day-night match to be played with a pink-ball. The last time these two teams met in Adelaide for a day-night test, India suffered an infamous collapse, posting their lowest-ever test total of just 36 runs.
While India have come to this game brimming with confidence, the story is a bit different for the hosts. The Australian team have plenty of concerns, especially with their batting lineup. Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith have been out of form, while Usman Khawaja has also struggled recently. Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh are their only in-form batsmen, with the latter struggling with bowling fitness.
Despite winning the first game by a comfortable margin of 295 runs, the Indian team made three changes to their line-up for the second test.
BGT 2024-25: What are the 3 changes India made to their playing XI for Adelaide test?
Captain Rohit Sharma has returned into the side after missing the first test due to the birth of his child. Interestingly, the Indian skipper will bat in the middle order, with KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal retaining their spots as openers for this test.
Young batter Shubman Gill and veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin are part of the XI in Adelaide. Gill was sidelined from the Perth test due to a thumb injury, while Ashwin’s omission was a tactical decision.
Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel and Washington Sundar are the three players who have been dropped from the XI that featured in Perth. Padikkal and Jurel made 25 and 12 runs respectively in the first test whereas Sundar contributed with the score of 33 across two innings and took two wickets.
Adelaide test both teams:
India: KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant (wk), Rohit Sharma (c), Nitish Reddy, Ravichandran Ashwin, Harshit Rana, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj.
Australia: Nathan McSweeney, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, Alex Carey (wk), Pat Cummins (c), Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon and Scott Boland.
