Rishabh Pant played a huge part in India’s 2020-21 test series win in Australia.

Australia captain Pat Cummins has said that the team is ready with plans to keep India’s mercurial wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant quiet during the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

India have won the last two test series in Australia, with Rishabh Pant playing a key part in both victories. In 2018-19, Pant scored 350 runs in four tests at an average of 58.33, including a top of 159*, to finish second in the series.

In 2020-21, Rishabh Pant made 274 runs in three tests at an average of 68.50, finishing third in the series after Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith. The series also features Pant’s legendary knock at Gabba, where he struck 89* and was unbeaten until the end, leading India to a remarkable victory over Australia.

Pant marked his return to test cricket with a magnificent century in the first test against Bangladesh in Chennai. The wicket-keeper batter was at his destructive best, scoring his sixth test century.

Rishabh Pant has had a big influence on a couple of series: Pat Cummins

During an interview with Star Sports, Pat Cummins was questioned if the aggressive approach will be the new style in tests moving forward. He was asked about Rishabh Pant’s batting approach and how it may affect a specific match.

Cummins recently discussed the new tendency of batting aggressively in test cricket rather than taking time to score huge runs. India have Rishabh Pant in the lineup, who is a specialist at this and would be a problem for Australia.

“Look I think every team has one or two of those players who can take the game on. We have got Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh as those guys. I think with those guys, you know that they are going to be aggressive. If you miss your area a little but, they are going to take the game on,” Cummins said on Star Sports.

When asked about Rishabh Pant’s batting style, Cummins responded that it is his natural style, but Australia have grown accustomed to it because these shots are popular in today’s cricket. He also suggested that Australia will try to keep Pant quiet throughout the forthcoming series.

“Someone like Rishabh (Pant), he might play a reverse lap, and it’s an incredible shot. That’s just part of who he is. I think we have become a bit more accustomed to it nowadays when some of those ridiculous shots are a bit more common. He is someone who has had a big influence on a couple of series. We’re going to try and keep him quiet,” the fast bowler added.

India will play a five-match test series in Australia for the first time since the 1991-92 season. The first test of the series will be played in Perth from November 22nd.
