Australia dominated the second day of the third BGT 2024-25 test at the Gabba.

Australia have gained control of the third test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 test in Brisbane.

After bowling just 13.2 overs on a rain-marred first day, India started the second day of the Brisbane test on the front foot. Indian bowlers made adjustments to their lines and lengths and got some seam movement on the Gabba wicket.

Speedster Jasprit Bumrah struck early, removing Australian openers Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney inside the first half an hour. Marnus Labuschagne was then dismissed by young all-rounder Nitish Reddy.

Just when it seemed the Australian batting order was on the brink of a collapse, Travis Head joined Steve Smith to stitch together a crucial 241-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

While Head began his innings in his trademark aggressive style, Smith initially looked vulnerable. However, with Head hammering the Indian bowlers, the former Australian captain capitalized on the opportunity to score his 33rd test century. Smith now has the second-most test hundreds for Australia.

Riding on centuries from Smith and Head, Australia ended day 2 in Brisbane at 405/7. Bumrah was once again the star of the Indian bowling, finishing the day with figures of 5/72. Australia will now look to add some quick runs before testing the Indian batters.
