Shubman Gill missed the first test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Perth.
India have received a massive boost ahead of the second test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. The young Indian team dominated Australia in the first test, securing a win by 295 runs. What made this victory special was the fact that it came without several key players including Shubman Gill.
Gill’s absence in the first test resulted in Devdutt Padikkal being included in the playing XI. However, Padikkal’s inclusion didn’t go as planned as the southpaw only managed 25 runs across both innings at Perth.
Despite India’s comfortable win in Perth, there were quite a few concerns over Gill’s availability for the challenging pink ball test in Adelaide. However, positive news has emerged from the Indian camp regarding the young batter.
Shubman Gill returns for India ahead of the Adelaide test
After missing out on the first test due to an unfortunate thumb injury, star batter Shubman Gill has returned for the Asian giants in their warmup game against Prime Minister’s XI at Canberra.
Ahead of the second test, the visitors are playing a warm-up match against the Prime Minister’s XI to get valuable match practice with the pink ball in day-night conditions.
Talking about the match, India won the toss and chose to bowl first to give their bowlers a chance to use the pink ball during the afternoon session. Harshit Rana starred for India, claiming four wickets, while Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja, and Prasidh Krishna contributed with one wicket each, restricting Australia to 240 runs.
The positive news for India came during the 17th over of their batting innings when Gill made his way to the crease following Jaiswal’s dismissal. So far Gill has looked comfortable in the crease and his return will provide a massive morale boost for India.
