Rohit Sharma has struggled for runs so far in BGT 2024-25.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 is finely poised at 1-1 after three matches. India started the series on the front foot, defeating Australia by 295 runs in Perth. The hosts responded strongly in Adelaide, claiming a comfortable 10-wicket win in the day-night test. The third game in Brisbane ended in a rain-marred draw with the hosts having a control over the game.

As the action shifts to Melbourne for the fourth test, which will begin on the Boxing Day, one alarming update has emerged from the Indian camp. Skipper Rohit Sharma and speedster Akash Deep suffered minor injury scares during the Indian team’s net session on Sunday, December 22.

Thankfully the Indian seamer has downplayed any major injury concerns for the Indian team.

Akash Deep on injury concerns before the Boxing Day test

Akash, who was struck on his hand while facing throwdowns, appeared calm when addressing the incident.

The 28-year-old said, ” The practice pitch is probably meant for white-ball cricket, the ball kept low at times,” he explained. “As for these minor injuries, these things happen at training, and there are no major concerns because of that.

Skipper Rohit Sharma, meanwhile, sustained a sore left knee during batting in the nets. Rohit immediately iced his knee before taking a short break to stretch his leg.

India’s Sunday training began with fielding drills inside the MCG. This was followed by an outdoor nets session where players like KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Rishabh Pant had extended batting stints.

India will be counting on strong contributions from their top order in Melbourne. The batting lineup has been disappointing throughout the series, with senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma struggling to find form.

On the other hand, the Australian team will keep a close eye on the performances of senior players Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne, who have both struggled for runs. They will also hope for a stronger batting contribution from Western Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh.
