Jasprit Bumrah left the SCG during the second session on day 2.

India have made an emphatic comeback in the fifth test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 in Sydney.

After being bowled out for 185 in the first innings, the visitors dismissed Australia for 181. It was a terrific collective effort from the Indian bowlers, with Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna taking three wickets each, while Jasprit Bumrah and Nitish Kumar Reddy picked up two apiece.

Debutant Beau Webster was the top scorer for Australia, making 57 runs off 105 balls. He was well supported by Steve Smith and Alex Carey, who contributed 33 and 21 runs, respectively.

India were given a huge score after lunch when captain Bumrah left the field after bowling just one over in the second session. Bumrah has been the leading wicket-taker of the series, with 32 wickets in 151.2 overs at an average of 13.06.

There have been concerns about Bumrah’s workload. The Indian bowling attack was criticized in Melbourne and Brisbane for relying too heavily on Bumrah to break even lower-order partnerships.

He was sent for scans during the second session on day 2, and the results will determine the extent of his participation in the game.

Who is captaining India in SCG test after Jasprit Bumrah left the field?

After Bumrah left the field, former captain Virat Kohli took charge and stepped in as the stand-in skipper during the rest of Australia’s first innings.

Kohli has captained India 68 times in test cricket, with 40 wins, 17 losses, and 11 draws to his name. Under his leadership, India won the ICC test mace three times in a row from 2017 to 2019.

Kohli captained India to their first-ever test series win in Australia. India dominated the hosts handing them a 2-1 defeat in 2018-19. Kohli stepped down as the Indian test skipper at the start of 2022.
