Marnus Labuschagne has been retained in the Australia playing 11 for the 2nd BGT 2024-25 test.

The Australian cricket team suffered one of their biggest home test defeats when they were thumped by 295 runs by India in the first test of the BGT 2024-25 in Perth. Australia had won four out of four tests at the Optus Stadium before being hammered by the Jasprit Bumrah-led India.

The second test of the five-match series will be played in Adelaide. It will be a day-night contest to be played with the pink ball. Australia have fond memories from their last day-night test against India at the same venue when they bowled the visitors out for only 36 runs in their second innings, India’s lowest total in test cricket.

Now India are leading the series and Australia will be looking to level it in Adelaide, where they have won all seven day-night tests.

Pat Cummins confirms Australia playing XI for 2nd test in Adelaide

Pat Cummins confirmed one change in the Australia playing XI for the Adelaide test: Scott Boland will replace the injured Josh Hazlewood.

Hazlewood suffered a side strain during the Perth test and hence will miss out on the Adelaide fixture. Cummins expressed optimism that the lanky seamer would be fit for the third test in Brisbane, starting December 14.

Australia have a more than able replacement in Boland, who has 28 wickets in six home tests at an average of only 12.21, and in two day-night tests, he has taken seven wickets at 13.71.

Cummins confirmed that Mitchell Marsh, who pulled up sore after bowling 17 overs in Perth, will be fit enough to bowl in Adelaide if required.

The out-of-form Marnus Labuschange has retained his place in the XI but needs to put up a performance of note soon to justify his selection.

Australia playing 11 for 2nd test vs India in Adelaide:

Usman Khawaja, Nathan McSweeney, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, Alex Carey (wk), Pat Cummins (c), Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Scott Boland
