Gautam Gambhir attended the pre-match press conference for India ahead of the Sydney test. Notably, captain Rohit Sharma was absent, sparking questions about whether he will participate in the New Year’s test.

India‘s loss at the MCG fueled the media speculations, with reports suggesting a rift within the dressing room. It was claimed that Indian coach Gambhir, after the MCG defeat, expressed his frustration, telling players, “Bahut ho gaya (Enough is enough).” Sources indicated that he was upset with the manner of dismissal of certain players.

Gautam Gambhir reportedly told players that they would no longer be allowed to play their natural game and would have to stick to the pre-decided strategy. He made it clear that anyone who didn’t follow the plan would be dropped from the team.

Speaking to the media ahead of the fifth and last test of the series, Gautam Gambhir downplayed the reports, stating that he doesn’t need to address them. However, he did acknowledge that there were some honest conversations following the defeat in Melbourne.

Gambhir said, “Those are just reports. That’s not the truth. I don’t think I need to answer any reports. There were some honest words, that is what I can say. Honesty is very important. Honesty is extremely important if you want to go and achieve great things.

Reacting to the leaks, Gambhir asserted that the dressing room talks should be kept in the dressing room.

The head coach stated, “Team first. It’s a team game, and everyone understands this. Debates between a player and a coach should stay between them. Any conversations in the dressing room should stay in the dressing room.”

Gambhir also confirmed that speedster Akash Deep will miss the Sydney test due to a back issue. He stated, “Akash Deep is out because of a back problem. That’s the only injury concern we have.

The Sydney test holds extreme importance for India as the visitors need to win the game to retain the BGT. Furthermore a defeat in Sydney will also end their hopes of making the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final.
