Jasprit Bumrah is the leading wicket-taker in the BGT 2024-25.

The fifth test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 is nicely poised with India leading by 145 runs after Day 2 in Sydney.

Australia resumed the day at 9/1 with Sam Konstas and Marnus Labuschagne at the crease. The hosts struggled in the first session and slipped to 39/4.

The Aussies found some stability with a 57-run partnership between Steve Smith and debutant Beau Webster, followed by a 41-run stand between Webster and Alex Carey. However, a major concern for India arose in the post-lunch session when Jasprit Bumrah left the field after bowling just one over.

However, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna stepped up in Bumrah’s absence, taking three wickets each.

India began their second innings in an aggressive manner. Yashasvi Jaiswal hit four boundaries in the first over off Mitchell Starc, while Rishabh Pant smashed his way to 61 off 33 balls, including six fours and four sixes.

Australia kept taking wickets at regular intervals to keep the game in control. Following the day’s play, Australia coach Andrew McDonald has now shared his thoughts on Bumrah’s injury and how it could affect India’s plans for tomorrow.

Speaking to the media after the end of Day 2 of the SCG test, Australia coach Andrew McDonald praised Bumrah but said India would need a new plan if he is unavailable tomorrow due to injury.

McDonald said, “He is a threat any time. And, yeah, if he isn’t there, then India would have to come up with a new plan.
