Jasprit Bumrah is the leading wicket-taker of the BGT 2024-25 so far.

Jasprit Bumrah continued on his sensational form and rattled the Australians in their second innings of the Gabba test.

After claiming figures of 6/76 in Australia’s first innings, Bumrah chipped in with three scalps in six overs for only 18 runs in their second innings on day 5.

This was after he had scored 10* (38) in a crucial 47-run partnership with Akash Deep that helped India avoid the follow-on on day 4 and potentially save the test match.

Bumrah’s three wickets on day 5 were opener Usman Khawaja, No. 3 Marnus Labuschagne and Australian captain Pat Cummins, who blasted 22 runs off 10 balls as Australia looked for a quick declaration. Bumrah dismissed Cummins with a terrific slower ball.

With these three strikes, Bumrah went past Kapil Dev’s record of the most wickets by an Indian bowler in Australia in test matches.

Previously, Dev held the record with 51 strikes and now Bumrah has 53 wickets. While Dev had an average of 24.58, Bumrah’s average (17.15) in Australia is much better than the legendary all-rounder.

Most test wickets by Indian bowlers in Australia:

  1. Jasprit Bumrah – 53
  2. Kapil Dev – 51
  3. Anil Kumble – 49
  4. R Ashwin – 40
  5. Bishan Singh Bedi – 35

Bumrah is currently the leading wicket-taker of the BGT 2024-25, with 21 wickets at an average of only 10.90.

Meanwhile, Australia declared their second innings at 89/7, setting a target of 275 runs for India in 54 overs. However, with rain and dark clouds, which means bad light, to threat the action, it’s unlikely that these many overs will be possible. A draw is the most likely conclusion right now.
