BGT 2024-25: "This one's for you" Nitish Kumar Reddy posts emotional Instagram story for his father after MCG century

Nitish Kumar Reddy registered his maiden test century in the MCG test.
Aged only 21, Nitish Kumar Reddy brilliantly tackled the Australian bowling quartet of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Scott Boland and Nathan Lyon at the MCG to plunder his maiden test century. All this while coming in to bat at No. 8 at India’s score of 191/6 in reply to Australia’s first innings total of 474.
Nitish Kumar Reddy had top-scored for India thrice before in the first three tests but those were all scores in 40s as India failed to reach even 200 in those innings.
This time, he helped India avoid the follow-on and cross the 350-run mark in support of Washington Sundar, who scored 50 runs. The duo formed an 8th-wicket partnership of 127 runs, the second-highest by an Indian pair for the eighth wicket in Australia in test cricket.
At stumps on day 3 in Melbourne, Reddy is 105* off 176 balls. He slammed 10 fours and a six in his enterprising innings.
Reddy had the crowd up on his feet when he lofted Boland for a four down the ground to reach his first three-figure score in test cricket in what is his debut test series.
One special man who was present in the stands and burst into tears as the youngster reached the milestone was Nitish’s father, Mutyala. The Reddy family is present in Melbourne for this test match. Mutyala was in the stands on day 3 and the was captured standing in the front row as Nitish got into the 90s.
Nitish posted a heartwarming Instagram story for his father. He posted a picture of himself celebrating his century and his father being emotional on the sidelines.
Nitish Kumar Reddy wrote: “This one’s for you! (heart emoji)”

After his son reached the landmark, Mutyala spoke with the host broadcasters. He expressed his feelings, saying, “For our family, it’s a special day and we cannot forget this day in our life. He has been performing well since the age group of 14-15 and now in international cricket, it’s a very special feeling. (On what were his emotions when Nitish was on 99 with one one wicket remaining) I was very tensed.”
