Rohit Sharma has scored 19 runs in three innings in the ongoing BGT 2024-25.

Captain Rohit Sharma has been a major concern for India during the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. The Indian skipper has struggled to find his rhythm in test cricket throughout 2024 after the England series at home.

After missing the first test in Perth, the Indian captain returned for the second test in Adelaide. Sticking with the successful opening pair of KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal, the Indian management decided to move Rohit Sharma to the No. 6 spot, a position where he last batted in 2018.

While Rahul has thrived at the top, Rohit has struggled to score runs in the middle-order. The 37-year-old has managed to score just three, nine, and 10 in his three innings in the ongoing BGT 2024-25.

Rohit’s poor form has sparked a debate on whether he should consider retirement after the conclusion of the series.

Ravi Shastri on Rohit Sharma’s form

Speaking on The ICC Review, Former Indian coach Ravi Shastri has now shared his thoughts on how Rohit Sharma can regain his form. Shastri has suggested that Rohit needs to adopt a more aggressive mindset while batting at No.6.

Shastri said, “I think he’s got to be very clear in his mindset to go out there and take the attack to the opposition and not worry about anything else. The last thing you want is him to be in two minds whether to defend or attack. In his case, it should be attack.

Shastri further added that Rohit’s ability to pick up the length quickly and taking on the opposition would be crucial in helping him regain his form.

He concluded, “The best No.6s in the world are those who know how to counter-attack, read the situation well, and, when required, take control of the game with intent, Yes, if a lot of wickets have fallen, maybe for a little while. You might have to be circumspect, but the intent has to be far sooner than later.
