Jasprit Bumrah is the leading wicket-taker in the ongoing BGT 2024-25.

Jasprit Bumrah has emerged as India’s most important player in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. The Indian speedster currently sits at the top of the wickets chart with 21 wickets in three tests at an incredible average of 10.90.

Bumrah’s numbers in Australia speak volumes about his quality. The Indian vice-captain has taken 53 wickets on the Australian shores and is already the leading wicket-taker for India in Australia in test cricket.

As the action shifts to the fourth test in Melbourne, Bumrah’s impressive record at the iconic MCG will surely boost the confidence of Indian fans. The 31-year-old pacer has claimed 15 wickets in two matches at the venue at an exceptional average of just over 13.

Former India coach Ravi Shastri has recently shared his views regarding Bumrah, drawing a comparison to one of cricket’s all-time greats.

Ravi Shastri praises Jasprit Bumrah, compares him to Malcolm Marshall

Speaking to Fox Cricket, Shastri highlighted Bumrah’s ability to quickly assess batters. He compared Bumrah’s bowling intelligence to that of the legendary West Indian fast bowler Malcolm Marshall.

Shastri said, “He’s a terrific reader of the game when it comes to batsmen. I thought when I played, the best bowler I faced was Malcolm Marshall because of his ability to suss out conditions and read batsmen’s strengths and weaknesses. I think Bumrah is in that category. He’s so quick to suss the strengths and weaknesses of a player,

The former India coach also highlighted Bumrah’s remarkable record at the venue, recalling his exceptional spell in 2018.

He continued, “Bumrah is up for the challenge, he loves bowling at the MCG. I remember his six-wicket haul when I was a coach when he just dismantled Australia.”

Shastri praised Bumrah’s ability to swing the ball both ways, describing him as a relentless operator.

He concluded, “There’s no respite because he’s at the peak of his powers and what he does with the new ball makes it difficult for any batsmen. He swings it and seams it both ways, he’s absolutely relentless.
