Rohit Sharma missed the first test against Australia after the birth of his child.
The Indian cricket team test skipper Rohit Sharma has joined the squad in Perth and was spotted with head coach Gautam Gambhir in the dressing room on day 4 of the ongoing test match at the Optus Stadium.
Rohit missed the Perth test owing to the birth of his second child.
He landed in Perth on Sunday, November 24, and on Monday joined the rest of the team members. He was seen sitting in the dressing room alongside Gambhir as the duo watched the game.
Later, Rohit practiced in the nets as well.
In the absence of Rohit Sharma, vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah led the team in the first BGT 2024-25 test match in Perth.
The second test match, which is a day-night contest, will be played from December 6 in Adelaide. Before that, India will play a two-day pink-ball fixture against the Prime Minister’s XI at the Manuka Oval, where Rohit is expected to participate and get match practice.
Sharma was in poor form during the home series against New Zealand, when he managed only 91 runs in three tests at an average of 15.16. India lost the series 3-0, their first home test series loss after 12 years.
Meanwhile, India have an upper hand in the ongoing Perth test. In their first innings, India were bowled out for 150 but bounced back to bundle Australia for only 104.
In their second innings, India piled up 487 runs, giving a huge target of 534 runs to Australia. By lunch on day 4, Australia are 104/5 and India are heading towards a memorable win.
