Sam Konstas made his test debut in the fourth BGT 2024-25 test.

Making his test debut in front of 80,000 spectators at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Sam Konstas wasted no time announcing himself to the world.

Taking the Indian bowling attack by storm, Konstas blazed his way to 60 runs off 65 balls in the first innings. His impressive knock included six fours and two sixes.

The major talking point of his innings, however, came when Virat Kohli bumped his shoulder with the Aussie debutant, leading to a verbal exchange between the two players. The Indian middle-order batter was later fined 20 percent of his match fee and received one demerit point for his antic.

Interestingly, while fielding on Day 2, Konstas mimicked Kohli’s shoulder bump action in front of the MCG crowd. The young New South Wales batter has been highly engaging with the audience, and his actions while fielding energized the crowd.

At the time of writing India have recovered to 326/7. Nitish Kumar Reddy (85*) and Washington Sundar (40*) are at the crease for the visitors. India will look to get as close as possible to Australia’s score. With the Melbourne pitch expected to deteriorate on days 4 and 5, any target above 200 would prove to be challenging to chase.

India and Australia playing XIs for the MCG test:

India: Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Akash Deep, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj.

Australia: Usman Khawaja, Sam Konstas, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, Alex Carey, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon and Scott Boland.
