Scott Boland made his test debut in 2021.

Australian seamer Scott Boland is one of the most underrated fast bowlers of the current generation. Despite his exceptional bowling record in Shield and ‘A’ cricket, Boland couldn’t get the opportunity in Australia’s test side for a long time due to the presence of the star-studded pace trio of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Pat Cummins.

Boland has had a strong impact in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. He’s played three tests in this series in the absence of the injured Hazlewood.

So far, Boland has taken 15 wickets in five innings at an average of 15.46. He played a key role in Australia’s victory in the Boxing Day test in Melbourne, where he tore through the Indian batting lineup in the second innings.

Boland has maintained his excellent form in the fifth test in Sydney, where he achieved a remarkable record during his four-wicket haul.

Scott Boland has become the oldest bowler in the last 50 years to take 50 wickets in test cricket, achieving the milestone at 35 years and 267 days. He follows New Zealand’s Bevan Congdon, who reached the mark of 50 test scalps at 37 years and 10 days in February 1975.

Boland led the Australian bowling attack in the first innings of the Sydney test, taking 4/19 in 17 overs. He reached the 50-wicket milestone with the wicket of Nitish Kumar Reddy for a golden duck.

Boland started the proceedings by removing Yashasvi Jaiswal for 10 before dismissing Virat Kohli, who edged to third slip.

He later returned to break the 48-run partnership between Pant and Jadeja with Pant’s wicket before dismissing Reddy to put Australia firmly in control. He has now taken 50 wickets in 13 tests at an average of just 18.82.
