Steve Smith notched up his 11th test century against India during the MCG test.

On Friday, in front of a huge crowd at the storied MCG, Steve Smith raised his 34th test century, the second-most by an Australian batsman, and 11th against India, the most by any batsman in the world.

The former Aussie skipper led the way in his side’s charge on day 2 of the fourth BGT 2024-25 test in Melbourne. He top-scored for his side with 140 runs in 197 balls, creaming 13 fours and three sixes in his sizzling innings.

Smith’s 140 was the key pillar in Australia’s total of 474 as the hosts ran the Indian bowlers into the ground; Australia batted for 122.4 overs in their first innings.

Smith, though, got out in an unusual fashion to Akash Deep. Smith’s bizarre mode of dismissal got the fans astonished with the batsman himself smiling at the end.

As he ran out of partners, Smith decided to give Deep a charge and sway him. He skipped down the pitch and down the leg side to hit Deep on the offside but got an inside edge onto his leg. However, and bizarrely, the ball ricocheted off his leg and rolled onto the stumps. The ball only nudged the leg stump, causing one bail to fall.

As he was way down the pitch, Smith couldn’t prevent the ball from hitting the stump. He let out a wry smile as this form of dismissal.
