India have played 13 tests in Adelaide so far.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 kicked off with a massive win for India in Perth. The visitors outclassed Australia by a huge margin of 295 runs to win the series opener at the Optus Stadium.

After a poor start that saw the Indian team getting bundled out for the score of just 150 runs in the first innings, the Indian batters showed resistance in the second innings.

Young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and senior batsman Virat Kohli starred for the Asian giants with the bat with scores of 161 and 100* respectively. KL Rahul was an unsung hero for the visitors playing gritty knocks of 26 and 77 in both innings.

The pace attack of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Harshit Rana ran through the Aussie batting lineup combining for 17 wickets in the game.

Australia on the other hand have more questions than answers. Superstar batters Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith have been out of form for the last one and a half years. The ineffectiveness of Nathan Lyon in the first test will be another concern for the hosts.

As the action shifts to Adelaide for the second test, India will look to build on the winning momentum to strengthen their grip in the series. On that note, let’s look at how the Indian team have fared in Adelaide.

How many test matches have India won in Adelaide?

India have played a total of 13 test matches in Adelaide. Out of these, they won two tests, lost on eight occasions, and drew three matches.

India’s first victory here came in a historic test in 2003 where Rahul Dravid and Ajit Agarkar defied all odds to guide the visitors to a four-wicket win.

After conceding 556 runs in the first innings, Rahul Dravid propelled India to 523 with his brilliant double hundred (233). Ajit Agarkar then took six wickets to restrict Australia to 196 runs in the second innings. Despite a few hiccups, India chased down the target of 230 to register a four-wicket win.

India’s next success in Adelaide came after 15 years in 2018. Pujara led India’s batting with scores of 123 and 71 in both innings, while Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and R Ashwin starred in the bowling department. India won the test on the last day by a narrow margin of 31 runs.

However, the last time the two teams faced off at this venue was in 2020. In that match, the Indian team were humiliated by the Aussies, getting bowled out for just 36 runs in the second innings. Australia won that game by eight wickets.
