Josh Hazlewood dismissed Virat Kohli in the third test at the Gabba.

It is immensely frustrating and disappointing both for the fans and the batsman as Virat Kohli was dismissed while chasing a delivery outside off-stump early into his innings during India’s first innings of the third BGT 2024-25 test match at the Gabba.

Australia posted 445 runs on the board in their first innings and India, in reply, were rattled early on with Mitchell Starc claiming the wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill with only six runs on the board.

The onus was now on the senior batsman and former captain Kohli to bail the side out of trouble.

However, the 36-year-old who had managed scores of 7 and 11 in the previous test in Adelaide produced a horrendous shot as he went driving to a full length delivery from Josh Hazlewood that was pitched on the sixth stump line if not farther even.

This has been a pattern with which pacers have been dismissing Kohli regularly and he gets sucked in. It’s quite shocking that he’s not yet worked completely over this weakness, or temptation as he likes to have the feel of the ball on his bat.

However, with the new ball swinging and Kohli early into his innings, such a stroke comes with high risk, to which Kohli often falls.

Once again, here, the senior batsman should have shown restraint against the temptation of driving so much away from the body. With little feet movement, Kohli looked to latch onto the fuller delivery but only managed a faint edge through to wicket-keeper Alex Carey.

The former skipper was dismissed for only three runs, leaving his side reeling at 22/3.
