Virat Kohli scored only 190 runs across five tests against Australia.
In a funny and bizarre incident, India’s Virat Kohli was seen mocking the Australian crowd at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on day 3 of the fifth test of the BGT 2024-25.
The five-test series concluded on Sunday in Sydney with the hosts clinching the fifth test by six wickets and sealing the series by 3-1. With this win, Australia defeated India for the first time in a test series in a decade.
Pat Cummins’ team reclaimed the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and also secured a place in the ICC WTC 21023-25 final, which they will play against South Africa in June at Lord’s.
India had set Australia a target of 162 runs and the Jasprit Bumrah-less bowling attack couldn’t apply consistent pressure on the hosts.
During Australia’s chase, Kohli had a go at the Australian fans in the crowd as he mocked them by showing off his pockets, suggesting that he doesn’t have any sandpaper in his pockets.
Kohli further antagonized them by mimicking Cameron Bancroft’s actions from the 2018 Cape Town test against South Africa, which is famous for the Sandpaper Gate scandal.

Meanwhile, Kohli endured another dismal series barring one knock. In five tests (nine innings) in Australia, he scored 190 runs at an average of 23. His highest score in the series was 100*, which came in the first test in Perth. Apart from that, he failed to cross 40 even once.
This series followed from his dismal form against New Zealand, where he managed only 93 runs in three tests with one fifty.
India’s next test series is in June in England. It’s not certain whether Kohli, currently sitting on 9230 test runs, would be able to hold onto his place in the side.
