Virat Kohli scored a century in the first test of BGT 2024-25 in Perth.

Virat Kohli has been the backbone of India’s test batting lineup for over a decade. Known for his adaptability the star Indian batter has played several match-defining innings in the longest format of the game in across conditions in the world.

The 36-year-old started the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 on a strong note, scoring an unbeaten century in the second innings of the Perth test. However, his form has witnessed a gradual decline since then.

Kohli has scored 126 runs in five innings so far in the series, averaging 31.5. However, it is not just the lack of runs but the manner of his dismissals that has been particularly disappointing.

The Indian No. 4 has repeatedly fallen in the same manner—chasing deliveries outside the off-stump that could easily be left alone. Kohli appears unwilling to rectify his mistakes.

As the series heads to Melbourne and Sydney for the final two matches, the visitors will be hope for one of their all-time greats to rediscover his form.

On that note, let’s take a look at Virat Kohli’s stats and record at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), where the fourth test will be played.

Virat Kohli’s stats and record at the MCG in test cricket:

Kohli has scored 316 runs in six innings at the MCG, and averages 52.66 at this venue, with one century and two half-centuries.

Kohli’s first game at the venue was a disappointing one with the batter managing the scores of 11 and 0 across both innings.

His best performance at the MCG came in 2014 when he smacked 169 runs, consisting of 18 boundaries, in the first innings. He followed it up with 54 runs in the second innings, helping India secure a crucial draw.

Kohli returned to the iconic ground in 2018 and contributed with scores of 82 and 0 in India’s 137-run victory.
