Bharat Arun feels Kuldeep Yadav will be successful in England.
Former India bowling coach Bharat Arun has revealed his bowling line-up of the Indian Cricket Team for the first test against England. The two teams will lock horns in a five-match test series, which will begin at Headingley in Leeds from July 20.
Shubman Gill will lead the Indian Cricket Team in the test series against England. The right-handed batsman was appointed as the new test skipper for India by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Rishabh Pant has been picked as the new vice-captain.
The Indian Cricket Team will miss two batting legends in the series in Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who announced their retirement from the red-ball format. While the Shubman Gill-led side has a good batting depth to fill the vacant spots left by both, their bowling unit seems a bit uncertain.
Bharat Arun picks Kuldeep Yadav and Arshdeep Singh in his playing XI for 1st test
Former India cricketer Arun feels that the Indian team should go ahead with five bowlers in the first test at Headingley in Leeds. Interestingly, he picked Arshdeep Singh over Prasidh Krishna as one of the pacers in the playing XI of the opening test.
“Siraj and Bumrah is a no-brainer. The other two bowlers would be the toss-up between… I would definitely go for Arshdeep because being a left-hander, and not many people even get to practice against left-handers, even in the nets. So, it’s not always easy. Especially if there is a skillful left-hander, he becomes all the more potent,” Arun was quoted as saying by RevSportz.
Arun, who represented the Indian Cricket Team from 1986 to 1987, also picked Kuldeep Yadav over Washington Sundar in the spin department. He feels Yadav will be successful in the series as wrist spinners have done well in England in the past.
“Wrist spinners have always been effective, especially in England. Maybe even initially, when there is a little bit of dampness in the wicket, there is help for those wrist spinners. It’s not just bowling. I think somebody who instantly comes to our mind is Shane Warne. I think Kuldeep [Yadav] has got enough skills to be successful in England”, he said.
And also, if you look at this bowling attack, yes, it is relatively inexperienced, but it’s got huge potential. I would play Kuldeep Yadav. Even if not in the first innings, second innings, he would be a handful to deal with,” he further added.
The 62-year-old also believes that a team needs five bowlers to win a test series abroad. With spin all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, India can add Yadav in the playing XI in the Headingley test.
Meanwhile, the Indian Cricket Team have reached England to prepare for the test series. The series will conclude with the fifth test at The Kennington Oval in London. The match is scheduled to be played from July 31 to August 4.
