Bhuvneshwar Kumar last played a game for India in November 2022.

On September 5, Indian chief selector Ajit Agarkar announced the 15-members squad for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India along with captain Rohit Sharma in Colombo. Team India retained their Asia Cup 2023 squad for the upcoming mega event, and Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Shardul Thakur got the green signal to represent India as pace bowlers. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, after the South Africa tour in 2022, has found no place in the Indian ODI team or in the World Cup. Playing in the UPT20, Noida Super Kings skipper Bhuvneshwar Kumar made a bold statement about his future.

Part of India’s previous two World Cup editions, Bhuvneshwar Kumar is still hopeful for his comeback and doesn't count himself out. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, while giving an interview, said that he is not focusing on just making his comeback but on playing good cricket and enjoying it. Bhuvneshwar Kumar said, "When you are at a stage when you know you are going to play only for a few more years, being a fast bowler, it hits you, and you want to enjoy cricket. I am at that stage now." Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been a match-winning figure for Noida Super Kings in the UPT20 league.

'I am just focused on playing cricket'

Bhuvneshwar Kumar hasn’t played for Team India since November 2022. Bhuvneshwar Kumar said, "Yes, I am not part of the Indian team, but this does not bother me. It’s not that I am trying something different or planning anything new to come back; I am just focusing on playing cricket." Bhuvneshwar Kumar was part of Indian team in the World Cup 2015 in Australia and the World Cup 2019 in England. He has played seven World Cup games for India and picked up 11 wickets. Bhuvi’s last ODI for India was in January 2022 against South Africa.

Talking about his comeback with Indian team, Bhuvi made a big statement and said, "I am not playing just to make a comeback. I am doing what is needed to play good cricket. There might be a chance to make a comeback. But that is not my focus. Whatever format or league I play in, I want to contribute. If things fall into place, I can make a comeback, but that is not my sole focus now." Along with Bhuvi, opener Shikhar Dhawan also found no place in India’s 15-members World Cup squad.
