Cameron Green has set himself a base price of INR 2 crore.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction is around the corner and the preparations for it are in full flow. The bidding event will take place in Abu Dhabi on 16 December with 1355 players having put their names in the hat for the available 77 slots.
One of the names that will be under the radar of all the franchises will be Australian all-rounder Cameron Green. The lanky player is one of the best players going in world cricket currently and with him being a pace-bowling all-rounder, a lot of teams would be keen to get him in the mix.
Cameron Green has registered himself at a base price of INR 2 crore and it is expected that there will be a bidding war for him between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who have the largest purses amongst the 10 teams.
KKR have released Andre Russell and they need someone to fill in his shoes and in that category, Cameron Green makes the perfect replacement, CSK too are in need of a foreign all-rounder, who can contribute with the bat as well as the ball.
This means that Cameron Green will be in high demand and might fetch a big deal. However, his bid cannot extend past INR 18 crore. This has made many wonder as to why his bid cannot go past INR 18 crore and the reason behind that has been revealed.
Why Cameron Green’s bidding war cannot get past INR 18 crore

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced the new maximum fee rule for overseas players. This came into existence after the franchise raised concerns, saying foreign players register mostly for the mini-auctions in a bid to get more money.
As per the new maximum fee rule, a player’s salary cannot exceed Rs. 18 crore — the same upper limit teams used for their top retention bracket before the 2025 mega auction. If the bid goes past 18 crore then the excess money will be utilised by the BCCI for player welfare.
“Any overseas player’s auction fee at a small auction will be lower than the highest retention price [of INR 18 crore] and the highest auction price at the big auction. In case the highest auction price at the big auction is INR 20 crore, then INR 18 crore will be the cap. If the highest auction price at the big auction is INR 16 crore, then the cap will be INR 16 crore,” said the statement from IPL.
