The ICC WTC 2023-25 final is slated for June 2025 at the Lord’s.

The third test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 ended in a draw at the Gabba, Brisbane, on Wednesday. The match was headed for a draw once India avoided the follow-on late on day 4 through a spirited 10th-wicket stand between Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep.

On day 5, Australia, in order to gain quick runs, lost seven wickets for 89 and declared their innings, setting up a target of 275 for India with 54 overs left in the day.

However, only 2.1 overs were possible in India’s second innings as rain arrived once again and no more play was possible.

Since the Gabba test ended in a draw, both teams got ICC WTC points. This resulted in a dent to the PCT of both teams and India’s chances of reaching the ICC WTC 2023-25 final took more hit.

India and Australia retained their positions in the third and second places respectively.

India now have PCT of 55.88% and have two tests left. They need to win both these test against Australia to secure a place in the ICC WTC 2023-25 final without depending on other teams’ results.

If the series ends in a 2-2 draw, India will end with PCT of 55.26%. In that case, Australia will need to win one test in Sri Lanka to go past India.

Australia’s PCT is currently 58.89 and they have four tests left – two against India and two against Sri Lanka.

Table toppers South Africa have PCT of 63.33% and need to win one test match out of two against Pakistan to seal a place in the ICC WTC 2023-25 final.
