Afghanistan defeat Pakistan by eight wickets in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match in Chennai.

Chennai crowd witnessed an electrifying clash as Afghanistan pulled off an incredible victory against their arch-rivals, Pakistan, in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. It can be described as an edge-of-the-seat thriller, Afghanistan emerged victorious, defeating Pakistan by eight wickets.

Pakistan, set a challenging target of 283 runs for Afghanistan in the difficult pitch of Chennai. Pakistan innings featured noteworthy contributions, including a determined 58 by Abdullah Shafique and a captain's knock of 74 by Babar Azam. However, Afghanistan's bowlers, headed by Noor Ahmad, Naveen-ul-Haq, and Mohammad Nabi, managed to restrict Pakistan to a total of 282/7 in their allotted 50 overs. Noor Ahmad was playing his first match of the tournament and Afghanistan included four spinners in their team.

Openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran displayed remarkable composure and resilience, building a partnership of 130 runs that set the stage for an epic victory. Gurbaz contributed a blistering 65 off 53 balls, while Zadran anchored the innings with an impressive 87. The middle-order continued the momentum, led by Rahmat Shah, who remained unbeaten at 77, showcasing remarkable composure under pressure. Afghan skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi, with a patient 48 not out, played a crucial supporting role in the successful run chase.

To mark this historic moment, Afghan team took a celebratory lap around the stadium, this is the very first time that Afghanistan have defeated Pakistan in an One Day International (ODI) game.
