3 changes Australia might make to their provisional ICC Champions Trophy 2025 squad due to injuries

Australia will start their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign against England.
Hailed as strong title favorites, Australia are facing major injury setbacks just weeks before the start of their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign.
The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 winners are dealing with three injured players in the preliminary squad that they had named last month.
Let’s take a look at the three changes that Australia might make to their provisional ICC Champions Trophy squad.
Three changes Australia might make to their provisional ICC Champions Trophy 2025 squad due to injuries:
1. Mitchell Marsh Out, Beau Webster In
Tasmania all-rounder Beau Webster is a strong contender to receive an ODI call-up after Mitchell Marsh’s injury. Marsh is ruled out of the tournament due to a back injury. He replaced Marsh in the Sydney test against India and was Australia’s top scorer in the game, hitting a brilliant half-century in the first innings.
Webster’s ability to finish games with big hits could prove valuable for Australia on the batting-friendly pitches of Pakistan and Dubai. In List A cricket, he has scored 1,317 runs in 48 innings at an average of 31.35 and a strike rate of 77.
2. Pat Cummins Out, Sean Abbott In
Sean Abbott has been part of Australia’s limited-overs setup for a long time but has majorly been the back-up to the senior pace trio. Abbott is known for his variations, which can be useful, especially in the later stages of matches in Asian conditions.
He is likely to replace Pat Cummins if the Australian captain is ruled out of the tournament due to an ankle injury.
The 32-year-old Abbott has taken 29 wickets and scored 352 runs in ODIs. He was also a part of Australia’s ICC Cricket World Cup 2023-winning squad.
3. Josh Hazlewood Out, Spencer Johnson In
Left-arm pacer Spencer Johnson is seen as one of Australia’s brightest fast bowlers. The South Australian could replace Josh Hazlewood if he is ruled out of the tournament. Hazlewood is dealing with a hip injury, which followed side and calf injuries.
Johnson has taken 10 wickets in his short List A career. He made his ODI debut against India in Indore in 2023.
