Cheteshwar Pujara played 103 tests and five ODIs for India from 2010-2023.

Cheteshwar Pujara brought curtains down on his excellent cricketing career on August 24, 2025. He announced his retirement from all formats of the game.

Pujara, who played for Saurashtra in domestic cricket, made his India debut in 2010 in a test against Australia and impressed with a gritty fifty in the Indian second innings in a tight win.

He went on to play 103 tests, scoring 7195 runs with 19 test hundreds and 35 fifties at an average of 43.60 and a highest score of 206*. He also played five ODIs, scoring 51 runs.

In an emotional post announcing his retirement, Cheteshwar Pujara claimed that donning the Indian shirt was the highlight of his career. He also expressed gratitude to Saurashtra Cricket and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for their assistance.

“Wearing the Indian jersey, singing the anthem, and trying my best each time I stepped on the field—it’s impossible to put into words what it truly meant. But as they say, all good things must come to an end, and with immense gratitude, I have decided to retire from all forms of Indian cricket. Thank you for all the love and support!” Pujara posted on X.

Pujara’s last assignment for India was the final of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 against Australia, which was played at The Oval, London. After India lost the game, the selectors decided to go with youngsters, with Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, and Umesh Yadav being discarded from the Indian team.

Recently, in an interview with The Times of India, Cheteshwar Pujara touched upon various subjects in relation to his career. One of the questions was about the toughest bowlers he faced in his 13-year India career.

Pujara was asked to name the toughest bowler he had faced, and the ex-India batter named a few of the bowlers he found difficult to tackle on the pitch.

Across my career, Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel, James Anderson, and Pat Cummins have been among the most challenging bowlers I’ve faced,” Pujara told the Times of India.

He signs off with more than 21000 runs in First-Class (FC) cricket.
