Cheteshwar Pujara played 103 tests and five ODIs for India from 2010-2023.
Cheteshwar Pujara announced his retirement from all cricket on August 24, 2025. This brought down the curtains on his India career from 2010 to 2023.
During his 13-year test career, Pujara participated in 103 matches. In 176 innings, the 37-year-old scored 7195 runs at an average of 43.60. In test cricket, he also amassed 19 centuries and 35 half-centuries. His highest score in tests was 206*.
He had also played five ODIs for India but was never considered anything more than a test match specialist.
In a recent interview, Pujara was asked about not playing more white-ball cricket for India, and the veteran ex-cricketer stated that he was at peace with the career he had for India.
“No, not anymore. As I step away from the game, I am at peace with it. I feel fortunate to have played over 100 Tests for India, which is a huge honor. I had the privilege of sharing the field with cricketers I grew up admiring, and later with the younger generation as well. It has been a wonderful journey. I don’t dwell on what I didn’t achieve. Instead, I’m thankful to my father, my family, my coaches, and everyone who supported me along the way,” Cheteshwar Pujara said to The Times of India.
Cheteshwar Pujara made 51 runs in those five ODIs for India.
Cheteshwar Pujara talks about his future plans after cricket
In the same interview, Cheteshwar Pujara was asked about his plans after retiring from Indian cricket. Pujara has been seen in the commentary box and doing interviews for JioCinema during the recent England Vs. India test series, seemingly paving a path for his future after cricket.
“I haven’t made concrete plans yet. For now, I will continue with broadcasting, which I enjoy. If coaching opportunities come up in the future, I’ll consider them. At the moment, it’s too early, but once I’ve had time to reflect and think about the future, I’ll take a call,” Pujara told Times of India about his future.
Cheteshwar Pujara was not named in the West Zone squad for Duleep Trophy 2025-26, along with Ajinkya Rahane. This might be a reason why Pujara called time on his cricketing career, despite committing to Saurashtra cricket a few days ago.
