Cheteshwar Pujara played 103 tests for India.
Veteran Indian Cricket Team batter Cheteshwar Pujara pulled down the curtains on his career in Indian cricket on Sunday (24th August). The right-hander finished as one of the greats in the tests, helping India win crucial games both at home as well as overseas.
Cheteshwar Pujara, who made his debut in India in 2010, was the mainstay of the Indian batting lineup in the tests from 2012 to 2023. The premier batter, along with Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane, carried the Indian batting lineup and were the main pioneers behind the Indian dominance in the last decade.
Pujara, who was known as Wall 2.0, struggled in the last phase of his career, with his final outing coming in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 final against Australia. But, overall, his contributions to Indian cricket were immense, and he surely comes in the category of legends.
Pujara ended his career with 7195 runs at an average of 43.60 in the 103 tests that he played. The right-hander slammed 19 centuries and 35 half-centuries. He also played five ODIs but didn’t enjoy much success in white-ball cricket.
Will Cheteshwar Pujara get a pension from the BCCI?

As Cheteshwar Pujara retired from international cricket, a common question among fans has been: Will he receive a pension from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)? And the answer has finally been revealed.
As per the policy of the BCCI, Cheteshwar Pujara will be getting the pension. The former test batter will be getting a monthly pension of Rs 70,000. This comes after the governing body increased ex-players’ and umpires’ pensions in 2022.
“It is extremely important that the financial well-being of our former cricketers is taken care of. The players remain the lifeline and as a Board, it is our duty to be by their side once their playing days are over. The umpires have been unsung heroes and the BCCI truly values their contribution,” former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said back then.
Pujara is expected to play county cricket now. The batter, over the last few years, has been performing well there and has scored a truckload of runs. Since he has retired from Indian cricket, he is eligible to play in the overseas leagues now.
