Cheteshwar Pujara played 6 games Sussex before the ICC WTC Final against Australia where he returned with the figures of 14 & 27.

Indian top order batter Cheteshwar Pujara will be back playing for Sussex in county cricket after the West Indies. India’s 2-match test series will conclude on 24th July, while rest of the tour of West Indies will end on 12th August, Pujara will fly back to England to take part in Division 2 of the County championship tournament for Sussex after the test series.

He will also take part in the Royal London tournament. Pujara joined Sussex county early in the season to prepare for the World Test Championship. Despite having a great County season in the first half, Pujara failed to capitalise his experience in the big game against Australia in WTC Final at The Oval. Pujara could only 41 runs in two innings.

During the first half of County Championship, Pujara led Sussex in all the six games he played and smashed 3 centuries in 8 innings. Along with Pujara, Steve Smith also came in for a few games for Sussex before the WTC Final and especially preparing for the big Ashes series. Pujara has scored 545 runs in 8 innings with 3 centuries at an outstanding average of 68.12. There is a little question mark around Cheteshwar Pujara’s place in team India as the Management is looking to bring in a fresh face, Yashasvi Jaiswal might pip ahead in team selection for the West Indies tour.

India’s tour of the West Indies will begin on 12th July with a Test match at Windsor park in Dominica. Pujara’s place looks in trouble after his consistent failure in Test cricket. Along with Cheteshwar Pujara, India’s another middle order batter Ajinkya Rahane and pacer Arshdeep Singh will also be taking part in the County cricket. Arshdeep Singh is currently playing for Kent County. Ajinkya Rahane will also play in County cricket after the West Indies tour. Rahane will join Leicestershire.
