Playing for Sussex in county cricket has rejuvenated my India test career: Cheteshwar Pujara

Cheteshwar Pujara credits county stint with Sussex for rejuvenating his India career.

When whole India is busy watching the Indian Premier League, One of India’s finest test cricketers, Cheteshwar Pujara is bettering his batting skills at County Cricket in England. In between when most of the International players are busy with their IPL commitments, he decided to take flight for England and be ready for the ICC World Test Championship final against Australia. Pujara scored a magnificent century for Sussex against Durham. Cheteshwar Pujara is also leading the Sussex side in County Championship games. Pujara has started his County stint with a century, he played an inning of 115 runs in 163 balls with 13 fours and one six.

Cheteshwar Pujara credits Sussex

After his century, Pujara has expressed his joy and was hopeful of more runs this season. This is Pujara’s fifth season in County Cricket. He credited county cricket for the success of his career, Pujara said, “If you look at the last season, I was out of the Indian team. I needed some runs to get into the team. I got the right platform here. Scored a few runs and got back into the team. There is nothing like playing for the Indian Cricket team, but playing for Sussex has given me that opportunity, and will never forget that”. Pujara joined Sussex County last year when he was dropped from the Indian test squad.

Right hand batter Cheteshwar Pujara also loved the environment in the County setup. In a twitter video, He said, “The weather is better now, Sun is out most of the time, and the environment is nice. We love the crowd support, whenever they come they cheer for us”. Cheteshwar Pujara also expressed that he loves being in this environment. He started playing County Cricket in 2014. Apart from Sussex, he has also played Derbyshire, Yorkshire, and Nottinghamshire previously.

Cheteshwar Pujara’s innings helped Sussex in minimizing the deficit of the first innings lead. Durham scored 376 runs in their first inning, while Sussex with the help of Pujara’s ton went on to score 335 runs. Durham ended up taking 41 runs.
